Setting up business in a new city can be frustrating for entrepreneurs; therefore, finding a community that not only welcomes innovative business, but also helps make the transition easy, is important for business owners.

According to PROFITguide.com, Welland Ontario is ranked one of the top 10 business friendly places in Canada for 2015. The small town atmosphere has grown some big-city thinking when it comes to recruiting the industrial and business communities. Not only has staff collaborated with Economic Development in producing compelling Community Improvement Plans, they have also taken pride in knowing that the programs are helping entrepreneurs cut through red tape and grow Welland’s economic value. Setting up business in a new city can be frustrating for entrepreneurs; therefore, finding a community that not only welcomes innovative business, but also helps make the transition easy, is important for business owners. This is the philosophy that has been inspiring our team to create a smooth, seamless process for industrial and commercial development.

Being Mayor of a City this dynamic enables me to work with and meet the needs of all sectors of Welland. Welland’s history as an industrial producer of steel and cotton, brought people from all over Canada to work and settle in early Welland. Although the economic landscape has changed; our team has evolved and adapted. Welland has now embraced sport tourism, energy, renewable fuel, and education while continuing to re-build an advanced industrial manufacturing base.

Last year, the City invested several thousand dollars in Community Improvement Plans; ultimately growing Welland’s business community and setting a standard for economic development. As a resident, a business person, and as Mayor of the City of Welland, I have seen this City grow into a valuable resource for all business sectors. Welland is not simply a place where people can live, work, and play. This City is competing and thriving on the economic frontlines.
