To celebrate the end of winter and to welcome spring, area children are invited to go fishing with fishing legend Bob Izumi at the 22nd Annual Kids Day Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 7th.


To celebrate the end of winter and to welcome spring, area children are invited to go fishing with fishing legend Bob Izumi at the 22nd Annual Kids Day Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 7th.


Hosted by the St. Catharines Game and Fish Association, the fun will take place from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Pier in Port Dalhousie. As in past years, the derby is open to children 2 to 16 years of age and special needs individuals of any age. Bob Izumi, well-known fishing personality and chair of Fishing Forever, will be attending this event.

The young anglers will receive free bait as well as lots of great prizes, giveaways and lunch! There will also be displays by the Fire Department, the Niagara Regional Police Association, the Canadian Coast Guard, the Grimsby Auxiliary Marine Rescue Unit.

Registration will take place between 8:00 am and noon the day of the event.

Sponsors include Fishing Forever, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding worthwhile fishing, conservation and education projects, the Police Association of Ontario, Canadian Tire and the Niagara Regional Police Association, Bugsy’s Pizzeria, McDonald’s – Welland, Niagara Helicopters, Bird Kingdom, City of St. Catharines, Vine Floral, Marineland, Lucky Strike Lures, Metro, Rankin, Lions, Fintastic Fishing, St Catharines Fire Department, Sporting Club of Niagara, Bass Pro Shops – Niagara on the Lake, MNR, 7 – 11, Outdoors Oriented, Niagara Trailers, Marlon Marine, Niagara Tents.

Bob Izumi is an avid supporter of connecting with children through recreational fishing, states: “There is no better way to enjoy a day with the kids, away from all the electronics, and to teach conservation, than through a fun day of fishing.”
