GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment Company recalls various brand dehumidifiers
Product description
This recall involves 25, 30, 40, 50, 60, 65, 70, and 75-pint dehumidifiers with the following brand names: Airworks, Alen, Arcticaire, Arctic King, Beaumark, Coolworks, ComfortAire, Comfort Star, Continental Electic, Crosley, Daewoo, Danby, Danby & Designer, Dayton, Degree, Diplomat, Edgestar, Excell, Fellini, Forest Air, Frigidaire, GE, Grunaire, Hanover, Honeywell, Homestyles, Hyundai, Ideal Air, Kenmore, Keystone, Kul, Mainstay, Midea, Nantucket, Ocean Breeze, Pelonis, Perfect Air, Perfect Home, Polar Wind, Premiere, Professional Series, Royal Sovereign, Simplicity, Sunbeam, Sunpentown, Sylvania, TGM, Touch Point, Trutemp, Uberhaus, Westpointe and Winix.
Consumers can use the model selection tool on the recall website to enter their unit’s manufacturing information and find out whether their dehumidifier unit is affected.
Hazard identified
The dehumidifiers can overheat, smoke or catch fire, posing a fire hazard to consumers.Health Canada has not received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of this product.
GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment Company has received one report in Canada of a fire in one of the affected units and 38 consumer incident reports in the United States. The incidents involved fires and/or smoke, and property damage. There have been no injuries reported.
Number sold
Approximately 850,000 units were sold in Canada and 3.4 million units were sold in the United States.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from approximately 2003 to 2013 through various stores and online in Canada and the United States.

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected dehumidifiers and contact GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment Company to arrange for a product replacement or partial refund.For more information and to determine if their product is affected, consumers can use the Model Selection tool on the recall website to enter their unit’s manufacturing information and find out whether their dehumidifier unit is affected or call GD Midea Air Conditioning Equipment Company toll-free at 1-800-600-3055 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CT, Monday to Friday.
