A Message from Welland Mayor, Frank Campion

The holiday season is already gaining momentum in the City of Welland, and December has just begun.
We launched the 2016 holiday season as crowds gathered in downtown Welland for the annual Santa
Claus Parade and traditional lighting of the tree. After Santa lit up the tree, children had a visit with Old
Saint Nick himself while they enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies. Bridge 13 lit-up in a red and green
holiday spirit as the sun went to bed and the night sky shined with festival colours. The entire scene was
an unforgettable holiday moment—and best of all—free for everyone to enjoy.

December is a time for family, fun, and festivities. Although the holidays can bring families closer
together, it can also be a burden on wallets. The City appreciates the expense involved with holiday
planning; therefore, strives to build special events that are either affordable or free.

The Welland Farmers’ Market is celebrating this holiday season and inviting everyone to join in the
festivities and meet the farmers who grow our food. On Saturday, December 17th the market will
showcase carollers and call on Santa once again to make a visit. Bring the family to the Market between
9 a.m. and 11 a.m. for this free family fun morning.

The City’s annual Winter Lights Tour is a fun event that the MYAC organize for all to enjoy. Tour dates
are set for Monday, December 12 and Tuesday, December 13, at the downtown transit terminal. Let this
group of young adults take you on a breathtaking tour of Welland’s winter lights. Holiday carols, apple
cider, and treats are sure to lift everyone’s spirit. Please join us at this free family event. Non-perishable
food donations are welcomed. Visit welland.ca for more information and how to register.

The City is closing 2016 with a bang at the annual Children’s New Year’s Eve Bash, held at the Welland
Community Wellness Complex and Welland Arenas. This event has grown considerably over the past
couple years and now needs two venues to accommodate the activities. Bring the family for a glow in
the dark skate and end up at the Wellness Complex for more activities and treats. The night ends with a
beautiful display of fireworks over Bridge 13. The entire evening is full of fun free festivities. Join us
December 31st for this amazing traditional event. Visit www.welland.ca  for more details.
Please take the time to explore these events with your friends and family. On behalf of Welland City
Council, City of Welland staff, and myself; we wish you a safe and happy holiday season.

  • Thanks Debi. I follow Connecting Niagara on Twitter and Facebook as well. It's nice to have a site that promotes local events and organizations. We appreciate the support and promotion of our event.
