Canada’s 150th in Welland Committee is proud to celebrate Flag Day in the City of Welland on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 with flag-raising events and a social media campaign.

National Flag Day in Welland

On February 15, 1965 our national flag was raised for the first time on Parliament Hill. Every year since 1996, when Parliament declared February 15th as National Flag of Canada Day, we celebrate our beautiful flag.

In 2017, while Canada is celebrating its 150th birthday, the National Flag of Canada is celebrating its 52nd anniversary. Canadians are invited to celebrate this important symbol of our identity by showing their pride on social media.

In the afternoon, Flags will be raised at the following locations by Mayor Campion and members of the 150th Committee.  Residents are welcomed to join in.

·         2:00pm – Welland Civic Square (60 East Main Street)

·         2:15pm – Welland Market Square (70 Young Street)

·         2:30pm – Welland Community Wellness Complex (145 Lincoln Street)

·         3:00pm – Cooks Mills (Corner of Lyons Creek & Doan’s Ridge Road)

Share Your Moment with the Flag Challenge

We invite Welland residents to take part in the national “Share your Moment with the Flag Challenge” by posting pictures and videos of your favourite spots in Welland with Canadian Flags.  These could be parks or schools or shops that have flag poles or they could be your favourite place with you holding a Canada Flag!  Post your pictures on social media using the hashtags #canadianflag and #tagyourflag and ensure to target @2017Welland on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to share your photos and videos.

Welland Bridge 13 will be illuminated in Canada Flag colours on Flag Day too!  What a great spot for a photo opp.

  • Connecting Niagara does just that. They put me in touch with key representatives in the area that understood what I was trying to achieve. Together we achieved so much more.
