By now you've heard about the latest fun thing to do in Welland on July 30th. That being Welland Floatfest. A fun-filled, free family event taking place at the Welland Scuba Park on Lincoln Street.

If you attended last year, you won't want to miss this year's event. There is so much new! Yesterday, the Calhoun Corporate Challenge was announced.

Welland Floatfest Calhoun Corporate Challenge Given this year's theme at Floatfest is Canada 150, the Calhoun Corporate Challenge is offering a free t-shirt to team members (while supplies last) and $100 in gift certificates per team member (5 team member maximum), for putting together a floatie team. To enter fill out the entry on-line and dress your team and floaties in the best Canadiana you can find. (HINT: The Calhoun Store offers a great selection of Canadiana apparel - visit them on Bunting Road in St. Catharines). There are rules to be followed for the challenge as well as those of Floatfest. Visit the website to learn more.

Last year was the first Welland Floatfest. It was extremely well received. This year it will be EPIC! Bigger and better and fun for everyone - even those not floating. The biggest news this year however, is Canadian Tire Corporation stepped up to sponsor a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ official attempt for the Longest line of water inflatables title. The title attempt will take place at approximately 3pm, immediately followed by the awarding of the Calhoun Corporate Challenge prize.

There are 10 bands performing throughout the day, including Jessica Wilson, Ashlynne Vince, Revive the Rose, Eklectik, Filet of Soul, This Time Around, The Rob Graham Band, Sunset Strip, Frank Crytes and Four Point View all MC'd by Steve Szabo.

There will be a large Kids Zone with bouncy castles and activities all day, Food Trucks and retail vendors. Floatfest organizers are committed to giving back to the community. In doing so, they are also collecting non-perishable food items for The Hope Centre and the Open Arms Mission in Welland. You could even win a washing machine from Blue Ribbon Appliances / Budget Appliances just for bringing a donation.

Also new this year thanks to Canadian Tire Financial are fireworks at dusk.

There are people registered from as far away as Timmons - all looking forward to a fun day on the water on July 30th.

  • Thanks Debi. I follow Connecting Niagara on Twitter and Facebook as well. It's nice to have a site that promotes local events and organizations. We appreciate the support and promotion of our event.
