Information - Pelham SIU Incident - Update 2
We have been informed that the Ontario Special Investigations Unit has arrested and charged Sergeant Shane Donovan with the following alleged offences:
- Attempted murder
- Aggravated assault
- Assault with a weapon
Statement from Niagara Regional Police Chief Bryan MacCulloch:
"There is little doubt that this incident has had a tremendous impact on our community and our members.
At this time, we must respect the judicial process and allow this matter to continue to unfold before the courts.
It is important to note that this is an isolated incident; I ask for your continued support of our members and all of those involved"

"This incident is clearly deeply concerning and we offer our full support to Chief Bryan MacCulloch and the command team as they work with both the SIU and the OPP while supporting the members of the Niagara Regional Police Service.

ORIGINAL RELEASE NOVEMBER 29, 2018
November 29, 2018, at approximately 12:15PM two on duty Niagara Regional Police Service officers were in the area of Roland Road and Sulphur Springs Drive in the Town of Pelham.
An interaction occurred between the two that resulted in a shooting incident. One of the officers was transported to a local hospital and then to an out-of-town trauma centre.
The injured male officer has 28 years of service and is presently assigned to uniform patrol in Welland/Pelham. He is listed in stable condition. His name is not being released at this time.
Statement from Niagara Regional Police Chief Bryan MacCulloch:
"The investigation is in the hands of the Special Investigations Unit. In the spirit of transparency, I have asked the Ontario Provincial Police to determine if there is any criminal culpability outside of the SIUs scope. At this point in time, no arrests have been made in relation to this incident.
The days and weeks ahead will be trying ones for the NRPS family and the community we serve. I ask for your support for our members and all those involved."
