Dressage Niagara has a new show venue and three Bronze & Silver Shows
scheduled for 2023 (EC Sanctioned pending approval at time of press).
Building on the success of the WNAS shows last year, they are planning for
2023 to be better than ever. Dressage Niagara’s mission is to promote the
sport of Dressage in the Niagara Region.

Free admission at the Fairgrounds where there is ample space for parking,
(even trailers), family viewing, great warm up & show ring footing, online
competition registration & entry payment, food truck, prizes, ribbons, friendly
atmosphere, and dancing Horses!

Dressage is equated to dancing on horseback, comparable to figure skating,
with subjective judging, and marks out of 10 for each element on a prescribed
pattern, executed at letters spaced around the ring, in a 20x60m sand arena.
Scores are based on accuracy & training, performing each element at the
assigned letter, executing dressage skills, with elements progressing to the
highest level, showing balance, agility, training, and consistency. Various
figures are performed at the walk, trot & canter, with rhythm, relaxation,
connection, impulsion, straightness & collection, the rider’s position and
effectiveness, and the overall pleasing presentation of the horse & rider as one.

Juniors, Adult Amateurs and Open (Pro) Divisions will be offered, with
difficulty of tests progressing from Introductory (walk & trot only) to
Intermediate (FEI) Levels and will be scored by Equestrian Canada certified
Judges & with EC rules compliance managed & verified by an official Steward.
Riders compete for ribbons and sponsor donated highpoint prizes, and with
membership in the Dressage Niagara Club riders accumulate tests scores for
year end prizes at their individual level at the end of season banquet & Club’s
Annual General Meeting.

Highpoint Ribbons and prizes are achieved for the day top scoring 2 rides, and
TIP Highpoint awards celebrating the thoroughbred racehorse & its versatility
and strengths in new careers after starting life at the track (Thoroughbred
Incentive Program)

Members of Dressage Niagara will be taking part in various Events throughout
the season, reviewing the new USEF tests, with video and Judges input, plus
the opportunity to attend the TopLine Events Christoph Hess clinic &
symposium. (May 9-10 at Ancaster Fairgrounds). They also have a Virtual
Dressage Show Series, you can compete from the security & comfort of your
own barn, or home, video your test, upload it to You-Tube, and receive judge’s
comments & score sheet. See website & social media for details.
