Social Media Day, Meteor Watch Day, Handshake Day and Bomb Pop Day.
Social Media Day
How appropriate! I lucked out on this one. As many of you know, Connecting Niagara is a publication of PRowl Communications. I said how appropriate as we spend 80% of our day on our social sites, producing content and sharing your content - and it just happens to be my day to sponsor Today Is... It can be quite a challenge some days to come up with new and fresh content for each of my clients, but I love the challenge. When people tell me they hate social media, or they never use it, it doesn't work - My typical response is, it works - I get paid to play on facebook all day, every day. People wouldn't pay me if it didn't work. If attention is given to the day to day content and strategy, social media can be an integral part of developing new leads, sales and particularly brand awareness. Anyway, enough of the sales talk!
I along with everyone else, was skeptical at the introduction of social media, what seems like many moons ago. Mashable came up with Social Media Day in 2010 - that was only 6 years ago. Many social sites have come and gone, and many are here to stay. For many of us, social media has changed the way we interact with people, the way we receive news and information, the way we network. I have friends and fans on my social sites that I have never met - but many feel they know me personally as I am everywhere - so much so, when new people move to Niagara, they call me for an introduction to the people, places and things of Niagara. Quite the compliment.
Somewhere on facebook I found an app that offered the opportunity to find out how much time you spend on facebook. While I forget the exact numbers, it was equivalent to 3 1/2 years of my life. I guess that tells you just how active I am on social media.
Meteor Day
Look to the stars today.
Handshake Day
Probably the most universal form of greeting, the handshake is welcoming and shows a person your confidence in one step. Make it firm! Offer a handshake to someone you've never met today. You never know, that one gesture may form a long-lasting relationship.
Bomb Pop Day
I had to look this one up. What the heck is a bomb pop? Apparently that is the name of the red, white and blue popsicle sold on the ice cream trucks. Obviously, I don't eat a lot of popsicles. Enjoy one today!
Tune in to 91.7 GIANTFM Weekdays between 4:30 & 5:00 for Today Is... Helping Us in Connecting Niagara daily!
