On Tuesday September 6, 2016, the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) will hold its 16th annual traffic safety day that coincides with the return of local kids to school.
This year the NRPS will have over 25 teams of officers spread around the Niagara Region. Every available on-duty police officer will be assigned to traffic enforcement duties in the vicinity of schools in each of Niagaras 12 municipalities. The officers will be in school zones and with crossing guards to ensure safety and compliance with the Highway Traffic Act.
Officers will also be mobile near school buses as they drop off and pick up children. Drivers found failing to stop for a stopped school bus may be subject to enforcement.
Officers will be looking at offences including, but not limited to:
- - Speeding
- - Seatbelt offences
- - Distracted driving
