Please join us Saturday September 23, 2017 at 10:00 on Merritt Island for a tree planting and dedication ceremony. Dignitary speeches, ribbon cuttings, light fare, and a walk on Welland’s Trail 150.
In addition to providing clean air, wildlife habitat, reducing energy demand and connecting with nature, Welland’s Trail 150 will provide shade for a future generation of runners, walkers and picnickers while the Memory Trees will serve as places of reflection for citizens who have left a legacy in the City of Welland. Welland’s Trail 150 will help to replace the urban canopy that has been lost due to the Emerald Ash Borer. Approximately 1,000 trees are gone from the island and 20% of trees in Welland have been removed. Citizens have chosen of a variety of trees to purchase, including: Sugar Maple, Red Maple, Silver Maple, Northern Catalpa, Horse Chestnut, Sycamore, Red Oak, White Oak, Kentucky Coffee, Red Maple, Hickory, Linden, Elm, Locust and White Pine.
