Super Bowl Partiers Drinking Responsibly

The Niagara Story Place sponsored by Calhoun

On Sunday, February 4, 2018, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks for Super Bowl Sunday within the cities St. Catharines and Thorold.

If the 550 vehicles stopped during a ride check yesterday is any indication, party goers for the 52nd Super Bowl were drinking responsibly with only two drivers having been required to provide breath samples - both within acceptable limits.

Traffic - Police Conduct R.I.D.E. Checks on Super Bowl Sunday

On Sunday, February 4, 2018, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service conducted R.I.D.E. spot checks for Super Bowl Sunday within the cities St. Catharines and Thorold.

Officers stopped approximately 550 vehicles throughout the night. Of those drivers stopped, two of them were required to provide breath samples for suspected alcohol consumption.  Both of these drivers provided breath samples that fell into the acceptable range and were free to drive away.

In addition to the roadside tests, police issued a dozen tickets to drivers in contravention of the Highway Traffic Act.

The Niagara Regional Police Service remain committed to reducing Impaired Driving Offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E. Impaired driving is still the leading criminal offence causing deaths in Canada.

This initiative has been made possible, in part, as a result of grant funding from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services as part of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) program.

  • Connecting Niagara does just that. They put me in touch with key representatives in the area that understood what I was trying to achieve. Together we achieved so much more.
