Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for: Niagara Falls - Welland - Southern Niagara Region St. Catharines - Grimsby - Northern Niagara Region

THUNDERSTORM WATCH IN EFFECT:

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts.

Conditions will become favourable for severe thunderstorms to develop this afternoon as a cold front moves through.

The main threat is damaging wind gusts of 90 to 100 km/h.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Hail and locally heavy rain are also possible. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.

  • Connecting Niagara does just that. They put me in touch with key representatives in the area that understood what I was trying to achieve. Together we achieved so much more.
