The Pie Guys Bakery & Café eyes expansion with opening of new Distribution Centre in Port Colborne
“As we continue to grow, we are focused on maintaining the consistency and quality of our products and the customer experience.” says Rob Carter, owner & operator of the bakery. “We have seen tremendous growth year-over-year with our Port Colborne location, and now with our second location in Ridgeway, we anticipate the same momentum. The distribution centre will give us the space to grow, and the ability to expand further with new locations.” says Carter.
Being transplants from Toronto, Rob Carter & Brennon Zwingli relocated to Port Colborne in 2018 and purchased a local pie shop. “Over the past five years, we have developed into a fullscale bakery, café, coffee shop – and even became licenced two years ago.” I had a love of home baking and we have developed many of our recipes from our families as they have been passed down,” says Zwingli. “The success of the business has not only been about the products but the rustic farmhouse charm that each bakery has. “Our focus has always been to deliver an atmosphere that is unique, along with a service experience that goes above & beyond,” says Carter.
With no formal baking experience, Rob & Brennon continue to develop their craft each day.
“It’s been a lot of trial by error as the bakery has scaled. We are always challenging ourselves to be better and more creative. If something is a hit, we continue with it; if not, we try something new,” says Zwingli.
The company is always looking to create partnerships with other small businesses and support local. “We partnered with Konzelmann Estates Winery and launched our own private label wine, and it has been a tremendous hit,” says Carter. The wine coined “Doggy Style” has the owners’ three dogs on the label. We also partnered with Brimstone Brewing Co. and supplied our Sour Cherry Pies to brew a “Sour Cherry Pie English Ale”, which was “a success for both the bakery & the brewery,” says Carter.
The Pie Guys Bakery & Café opened it’s first location in Port Colborne in August of 2018 followed by their second location in Ridgeway in May of 2022. The bakery specializes in handmade, hand rolled Fruit & Savoury Pies, a full lineup of bakery products, a daily lunch menu along with specialty coffee and seasonal beverages. A new catering menu has just been launched and soon a gluten free & vegan lineup of baked goods, custom cakes, fresh & frozen prepared meals, and a new spring/summer tapas menu on the way. Indoor dining or take-out is available of all their products.
