Celebrate Earth Week with Niagara Region

Join Niagara Region in celebrating Earth Week 2023 by participating in the following activities.

Battery Drop-Off Contest: Monday, April 17 – Friday, April 21

Batteries that are thrown into the garbage can be a safety hazard and harm the environment. Lithium-based batteries can start fires when not correctly stored and disposed of.

Niagara Region’s Battery Recycling program is available at all four Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Depots. This program was initiated in an effort to keep hazardous waste materials from entering our landfill sites, recover recyclable metals and provide a safe disposal method for residents.

From April 17-21, the first 10 residents daily to drop off acceptable batteries at one of Niagara Region’s drop-off locations listed below will receive a $10 Amazon gift card. All residents dropping off batteries will also be eligible for entry into a draw for a $50 Visa gift card.

This contest is hosted in partnership with Call2Recycle, the battery recycling contractor for Niagara Region’s Household Hazardous Waste depots, who provided the gift card prizes. All contest details, including how to enter, will be available at each Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Depot.

Before dropping off batteries, residents are encouraged to review the list of the types of acceptable batteries.

  • Connecting Niagara does just that. They put me in touch with key representatives in the area that understood what I was trying to achieve. Together we achieved so much more.
