Brilliant Canadian bass-baritone Russell Braun returns to St.Catharines!

St. Catharines, ON - Chorus Niagara and Artistic Director Robert Cooper present a thrilling start to the second season on stage in Partridge Hall at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre with Felix Mendelssohn's ELIJAH, Saturday November 5th, 7:30pm.

"Mendelssohn says that Life and Art are not two different things, and his epic work still holds audiences in its thrall as it did at its 1846 premiere. Having the internationally renowned Canadian bass-baritone Russell Braun back to sing the dramatic title role is guaranteed to bring passion to Mendelssohn's protagonist and thrills to all who attend. I can hardly wait!" says Artistic Director and Conductor Robert Cooper. About the casting of Braun specifically, Cooper adds "You have to have a singer of real stature for the role, someone who has a real sense of personality, who can take charge. It's a very operatic piece. You want someone who can stand up there and bring all of the operatic fervor that they can and I personally only us Canadian artists...there are certainly a few other gentlemen who can do it, but for me Russell is the signature Elijah. So I wanted to grab him while I could."

Braun first performed the title role in Elijah with Chorus Niagara back in 1993, a role which he has now played on international stages.

Also joining the 100 voices of Chorus Niagara are soprano Leslie Ann Bradley; mezzo-soprano Anita Krause; tenor Adam Luther; the Niagara Symphony Orchestra and the Redeemer University College Alumni Choir.

Pre-concert chat for ticket holders in Partridge Hall at 6:30pm.

This concert is sponsored by JOSEPHINE HENDERSON.
