CITY’S TIME CAPSULE WILL CLOSE JULY 1, 2017: IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO GET IN

Message from Mayor of Welland, Frank Campion

Canada’s 150th year of celebrations and events is well underway, and I hope everyone has the  opportunity to participate in some of the many events that have taken place throughout or vibrant city.
This is a year of unity for our country and our hometown. 2017 not only marks a 150 years of Canada; it  also marks 100 years that Welland has been incorporated as a city. This is the year that we should be
looking back at 100 years of growth and history, while we continue to build the present and look forward to a bright future. In the spirit of celebrating our past, present, and future; the City is preparing to launch
a time capsule 50 years into the future. The capsule is scheduled for closure on July 1, 2017 at Welland Civic Square and will remain closed until July 1, 2067.

Time capsules have plenty of benefits for a community. They can connect generations and help those living in the future to better understand the generations that lived before them. Therefore, we invite
residents to join us in the time capsule by submitting your name and giving a piece of advice to those living in 2067.  This is also a great opportunity for our youth to put a message or prediction about the future into the capsule so they can revisit their message in 2067.

This simple task can be done at Welland Civic Square, Monday to Friday - from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., or visit the Welland Community Wellness Complex during facility operating hours to make a submission.
The time capsule is also travelling to the May 21st Victoria Day celebrations along with our Canada 150th Committee. This will be a great opportunity for people to get a glimpse of the time capsule and submit
their names while enjoying live entertainment and family fun activities.

The Victoria Day Celebrations is one of the 150th signature events. This is where round two of the Talent Showcase Competition will give local artists a platform to compete and move onto the final round of
competition. Five from ten contestants will be chosen to move forward in the competition and showcase their talents at the Canada Day Celebrations. Please take advantage of all the spectacular events this
year and join us in celebrating 150 years of Canadian Pride.

This message could be about your business. Ask us.

  • Thanks Debi. I follow Connecting Niagara on Twitter and Facebook as well. It's nice to have a site that promotes local events and organizations. We appreciate the support and promotion of our event.
    ~ Dan M.
