RAIN ALERT | Connecting Niagara

The Niagara Story Place sponsored by Calhoun

Special weather statement in effect for: Niagara- Significant rainfall amounts tonight into Tuesday morning.

Special weather statement in effect for:

Niagara Falls - Welland - Southern Niagara Region
St. Catharines - Grimsby - Northern Niagara Region
Significant rainfall amounts tonight into Tuesday morning.

A weather system moving along the line of a warm front over northern Ohio will affect Southern Ontario near midnight with a significant rain fall. Showers and embedded thunderstorms will soak the region tonight into Tuesday as the front tries to get closer to the area. A widespread rainfall of 20 to 40 mm is expected from this round of precipitation.

Total rainfall amounts of 50 millimetres or more are quite possible in a few localities that receive a thunderstorm or two tonight into Tuesday.

The precipitation will come to an end by Tuesday afternoon as the front is pushed back well to the south of the area.

Motorists should be prepared for ponding of water on poorly drained sections of roads, and low visibility in heavy downpours.

Environment Canada is closely monitoring this situation. Rainfall warnings may be issued later today or tonight as required.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ONstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ONStorm.

  • Connecting Niagara does just that. They put me in touch with key representatives in the area that understood what I was trying to achieve. Together we achieved so much more.
